10th International Migration Law Course Sanremo, Italy, 28 September –
3 October 2014

The five-day Course on International Migration Law (IML) is designed for government officials, academia, representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, as well as members of the civil society. It will focus on the international legal framework governing migration, including the rights and responsibilities of States and migrants. The key objective of this Course is to raise the awareness of government officials and those working in the migration field of the importance of international legal instruments in the management of migration.
The Course will be conducted in English and open to a maximum of 50 participants. Topics to be covered during the Course include: Overview of International Migration Law and its Main Instruments - Migration Terminology - Authority and Responsibility of States: Nationality, Admission, Stay, Detention, Expulsion - Human Rights of Migrants - International Labour Law and protection of non-nationals - Trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants - Rights of migrant women and children - Rights of migrant detainees - Migration and the right to health - Law of the sea and migration - Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons - States’ cooperation on Migration The Course will include lectures, case studies, and practical exercises led by experts in international migration law. Lectures will highlight key legal issues in migration management at the international and national levels. The participants will discuss migration law issues and explore legal solutions to current migration challenges. Case studies will provide participants with the opportunity to use their acquired knowledge and enable them to suggest responses to real life situations in accordance with IML. During the Course, IOM will provide a comprehensive overview and analysis of the instruments related to rights and obligations of migrants and States.
The Course will enable government officials to apply in their daily work the international instruments their countries have ratified, as well as relevant principles deriving from customary law. Staff from international and non-governmental organizations and civil society groups will be able to use the acquired knowledge in their work, particularly where the rights of migrants are concerned. Persons working for the media will be provided with useful background knowledge for their research and reporting activities. The Course also aims to facilitate the development of partnerships between governments and civil society. A certificate of attendance will be issued upon successful completion of the Course.

78th Refugee Law Course

The General Courses on International Refugee Law have been held since 1982. The courses are organised by the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in Sanremo in co-operation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and with the support of the Swiss Federal Office for Migration, the US State Department (Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration) and the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
The Refugee Law Courses have been developed primarily to benefit government officials who are involved in the formulation and application of legislations and policies affecting people in need of protection. Likewise, the courses are open to members of civil society, particularly those who advocate for the protection of forcibly uprooted people.
In general, the International Refugee Law courses aim at

• promoting law, principles and policies relating to the protection of persons in need of protection;
• developing a common understanding among participants on how these legislations and policies can be promoted and implemented at the national level by a variety of stakeholders;
• enhancing the skills of participants in developing and applying policies and standards in conformity with principles of international law;
• developing a positive attitude among participants towards the protection of refugees and other uprooted people.

During the five-day course in Sanremo, participants have the opportunity to interact with practitioners and experts on refugee protection, who facilitate various thematic sessions of the programme. Different learning methodologies are used to encourage participants to apply their acquired knowledge and skills in their country operations in a practical and pragmatic manner.

In verband met geldwolven die denken geld te kunnen claimen op krantenartikelen die op een blog als deze worden geplaatst maar na meestal een dag voor de krantenlezers aan leeswaardigheid hebben ingeboet terwijl wij vreemdelingenrecht specialisten ze soms wel nog jaren gebruiken om er een kopie van te maken voor een zaak ga ik over tot het plaatsen van alleen het eerste stukje. Ja ik weet het: de kans dat u doorklikt is geringer dan wanneer het hele artikel hier staat en een kopie van het orgineel maken handig kan zijn voor uw zaak. Wilt u zelf wat overnemen van dit weblog. Dat mag. Zet er alleen even een link bij naar het desbetreffende artikel zodat mensen niet alleen dat wat u knipt en plakt kunnen lezen maar dat ook kunnen doen in de context.
